Fade audio in and out

What it does

Eases a clip in from silence and out to silence instead of starting and stopping abruptly. A short fade removes the click at a hard cut; a long one is the classic ending of a song.

• Fade in and fade out are separate: use either or both.
• Each is a percentage of your selection, so it scales with whatever you trim.
• Drag the black markers on the waveform to set the length by eye.

How to add a fade

1. Open your file, and trim it first if you only want part of it.
2. Tick Fade in, Fade out, or both. A marker appears on the waveform for each.
3. Drag a marker, or move its slider, to set how long the fade lasts.
4. Play it through, then export.

If the two fades together would be longer than the clip, they are scaled down to fit, so they can never overlap.
